Profile
Ian joined Chambers in January 2004 and his main area of practice is in regulatory crime where he prosecutes and defends. He has been involved in cases relating to trade descriptions, trade marks, consumer safety and food safety. He has been appointed to the Attorney General's List of Prosecution Advocates and is regularly instructed by the Food Standards Agency and Meat Hygiene Service in relation to meat hygiene and abattoir matters. Ian is also very experienced in waste and pollution cases where he is instructed by the Environment Agency and in statutory nuisance cases receiving instructions from both tenants and local authorities. Ian is instructed by the prosecution and defence in prosecutions under the Health and Safety at Work Act and has experience of conducting appeals against the service of improvement and prohibition notices. In relation to planning matters he has experience of both inquiries and enforcement actions. He is also instructed in housing and neighbour nuisance cases including anti-social behaviour applications within both the criminal and civil jurisdictions. Ian is also experienced in conducting appeals and prosecutions in relation to various licensing matters including public entertainment and taxis. In other regulatory matters Ian receives instructions from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to prosecute breaches of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions At Sea.
