Attorney General announces two Standing Counsel to HSE at 6 Pump Court

October 5, 2014

Since the start of this year the Health and Safety Executive, the Office of the Rail Regulator and the Environment Agency have been conducting an open competition to appoint advocates to a new Regulatory List. This involves the appointment of Standing Counsel to HSE and ORR and of A, B and C List Counsel to work for all three departments. Candidates have just been notified of the results of their applications. Mark Harris and Pascal Bates will be appointed Standing Counsel

Joint Head of Chambers Peter Harrison QC said “We work hard to provide a quality of service to both defence and prosecution in these areas and that balance will continue. However we are obviously delighted that Mark Harris and Pascal Bates are to be appointed Standing Counsel. Both have very strong track records of prosecuting the high profile and complex cases in recent years. Everyone from Six Pump Court appointed to the Regulatory List has demonstrated a feel for this sort of work and is looking forward to continuing to act and advise from the first reporting of an incident right through to the conclusion of the sentence and POCA proceedings and any appeals to the higher courts.”

The members of Chambers who are to be appointed are:

Mark Harris – Standing Counsel to the HSE, the ORR and A List Counsel to the EA.

Pascal Bates – Standing Counsel to the HSE, the ORR and A List Counsel to the EA.
