The owners of a dangerous dog that savaged an 18 month old toddler have pleaded guilty to ownership of the dog and allowing it to become out of control in a public place.

The pit bull terrier-type dog mauled and severely injured an 18-month-old girl in April last year. The girl was seriously hurt with her scalp being ripped apart and now faces years of surgery. The breed had been banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

Sentencing will take place on 24 September.
