Gambling Commission fine reduced by millions

March 25, 2019

Mark Watson QC and Stuart Jessop of Chambers instructed by Pinsent Masons solicitors have successfully assisted a very large gambling company in substantially reducing the initial fine imposed by the Gambling Commission. The company was represented by a different legal team at the hearing and changed that team after the initial financial penalty was announced. The new legal team were then invited to make further submissions on the proposed fine. Those submissions were ultimately enough to secure a reduction in the penalty eventually imposed in the sum of several millions of pounds. The focus of the submissions was the level of seriousness of the alleged breaches and the culpability of the company in its failure to prevent the breaches.
