Guilty verdicts in the Berkshire auction house case

December 23, 2014

Fran Aldson has acted as junior counsel in a successful 6-week Trading Standards prosecution of three people involved in the fraudulent running of a Berkshire auction house. The jury at Reading Crown Court took 12 hours to return guilty verdicts on Jonathan King, Glenn Norcliffe and Beverley King for a mixture of fraud, consumer protection and money laundering offences relating to the misappropriation of customers’ money.

The jury had heard evidence over five weeks from dozens of customers who had taken goods to Cameo auctioneer’s for sale but had never received payment. Instead, regular sums were paid out of the business account into the personal accounts of both Mr and Mrs King, and Mr Norcliffe between 2009 and 2012.
