Oliver Saxby QC, Simon Taylor, Thomas Stern and Lucy Luttman judge at Bar Mock Trial Competition

On Saturday 1st December 2018, Maidstone Crown Court hosted the regional final of the Bar Mock Trial Competition 2018/19. The event, organised by Young Citizens (an initiative of the Citizenship Foundation charity), saw 13 schools from London, Hertfordshire, Kent and Essex presenting jury trials involving charges of ‘throwing corrosive fluid with intent’ and ‘money laundering’.
Four members of Chambers’ criminal team – Oliver Saxby QC, Simon Taylor, Thomas Stern and Lucy Luttman – sat as judges; summing-up and scoring cases, and providing feedback and advice on advocacy skills.
The event was won by the students of Queen Elizabeth School, who secured a place at the national final to be held at the Court of Session, Edinburgh in March 2019.
