Planning Policy Under the New Government – a briefing

At a Westminster Briefing event entitled ‘Planning Policy under the new Government’ on 29th September, William Upton outlined the planning reforms currently underway and the direction of the new government’s planning policy.

Together with Andrew Forth, Policy & Public Affairs Manager, Royal Institute of British Architects, William Upton spoke about the developments in planning policy including:-

– Govt proposals to significantly streamline the length and process of Local Plans
– Tightening the performance regime so that LAs making 50% or fewer of decisions on time are at risk of designation & extending the regime to minor applications
– Requiring local authorities to plan proactively for the delivery of starter homes
– Exempting starter home initiatives from planning levies
– Introducing a dispute resolution mechanism for section 106 agreements
– Govt plans for the National Planning Policy Framework
