Changing careers and becoming a barristerTweet
In an interview for The Guardian’s University of Law Partner Zone, Mukhtiar Singh makes the case for a diverse Bar and encourages switching career at any age. Having left school aged 16, Mukhtiar had a career in the police force for over 20 years, during which time he studied part-time for his law degree and Bar Professional Training Course. Mukhtiar now specialises in employment and civil litigation at Six Pump Court Chambers.
In this article, Mukhtiar outlines his own experience, the reasons that prompted the change and some tips for others who may be considering similar pathways. He hopes that it will encourage people from various backgrounds, particularly poorer backgrounds, to consider a career in law.
