David Travers QC acts for major retailer Wilko following serious injury to employee

The major high street retailer Wilko Retail Ltd has been fined over £2m in the latest prosecution under the Sentencing Guidelines.

David Travers QC acted for Wilko which is a “very large organization” within the meaning of the guideline. The retailer pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to an incident in which a member of staff suffered life-changing injuries after a roll cage fell on top of her.

Wilko had pleaded guilty at the very first opportunity and were sentenced on 11 January 2017 after a lengthy mitigation hearing in December.

His Honour Judge Ebraham Mooncey fined the retailer £2.2 million applying the Sentencing Guidelines which came into force in February 2016.
