Jury Retires in Gross Negligence Manslaughter Trial

April 26, 2017

The jury will retire today in the trial of Lucy King, a 39 year old mother charged with the manslaughter by gross negligence of her daughter, Frankie, aged 2. Oliver Saxby QC defends, leading Kate Hunter of Gurney Harden Solicitors.

The Crown allege that Ms King failed to get medical assistance when she realised Frankie might have swallowed some of her prescribed methadone.

Issues surrounding causation and the definition of ‘gross negligence’ within the context of manslaughter have arisen, and expert forensic evidence has been given on pathology and toxicology.

The trial has lasted 2 weeks.
