Stuart Jessop successfully prosecutes consumer credit business operating without licenceTweet
Stuart Jessop has successfully prosecuted two defendants under the Consumer Protection Act for carrying on a consumer credit business without a licence.
Both defendants were sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court, having already pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing, for carrying on an illegal money lending business over a four year period. The illegal loans totalled over half a million pounds and in some cases were enforced through the use of false letters, claiming to be from legitimate solicitors, threatening legal action if the loans were not paid.
The defendants were sentenced to 16 months custody for the consumer credit offences and the first defendant was also sentenced to 4 months imprisonment for the fraud offence to run concurrently.
